Evaluation: Question 3
What have you learned from audience feedback?
From all the feedback I gathered over the research, planning and production of my trailer, magazine and poster I learned that all the comments that were made would all help to benefit me towards getting a better grade and product. I found that it is very important to keep in touch with your primary audience through out the making of all three products as all they were aimed at people of a similar age and needed to appeal to them. This meant by getting continuous feedback allowed me to make sure my products appealed to them meaning in terms of marketing my products would sell well.
Questionnaires
I created a questionnaire to ask my audience directly what type of film they are most interested in. From these results I gathered that romance is a very popular genre, with a twist in the storyline and a happy ending. I tried to take these preferences on board when producing my trailer, and I feel I incorporated these elements in my storyline.
Poll Junkie
I created poll on the website 'Poll Junkie' this way I could ask people of all different age groups to visit my poll and answer my questions which were along the lines of, 'what is your favourite romance film' this way I could adapt my storyline to fit my audiences' preferences. Also 'would you prefer the male character to be in touch with his feelings or laddish?' this question surprised me, as my audience preferred the male character to be 'laddish', and when I asked in person why this was, because they would like the idea of changing the male in to a gentleman.
Audience Feedback
From my interview videos I gathered valid information that made me change certain elements of my trailer. After working on my trailer for so long I found myself not recognising certain things that were wrong with my product. However when I got other peoples feedback, these problems became recognisable. For example I was working on my trailer where at the end of it I showed my male character getting run over, this way I would be telling the end of my film in the trailer. But from working on the editing so critically I became unaware of this problem. So from getting feedback from different people this allowed the unrecognisable problems to be seen and changed.

Evaluation: Question 1
In what ways does your media products use, develop and challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
TRAILER
TRAILER
For this evaluation question I created iMovie clips and uploaded them via YouTube to show more clearly the comparisons and differences between my trailer Yours, Always and three other trailers.
- This is the first trailer I will be evaluating in terms of comparisons and differences with my trailer. This is the trailer for the film The Lucky One.
- This clip I made shows how The Lucky One and Yours, Always share the same theme of main characters falling in love, this shows a conventional theme of a romance genre.
- In this clip I have shown how I have developed The Lucky One and Yours, Always certain links they have in their storylines, creating more meaning in the character's relationships. However The Lucky One's link is a picture of the girl as he feels she saved his life in the war, yet in Yours, Always the necklace James gives to Serena gives him inspiration to go after her.
- This clip shows how I have challenged certain aspects of The Lucky One's trailer in Yours, Always as the storyline is different in terms of the family issues and war scenes in The Lucky One, and in Yours, Always the dad of Serena doesn't allow her and James to be together, this is a very traditional romance storyline where as The Lucky One is more contemporary.
- This is the trailer for the film Love and Other Drugs. I will be analysing this with the similarities and differences between both this trailer and Yours, Always.
- In this clip I made on iMovie I have show the scenes in which my trailer use, develop and challenge different element from the trailer Love and Other Drugs.
- Both trailers have a contemporary setting in built up and city areas, we found this would be more suitable for our trailer's setting as this is our own environment meaning more access to city areas is available. When the male character goes after the girl in his car in Love and Other drugs, we see scenes of her looking out of the window at him, and in our trailer we also have elements of these scenes, also clips of the James in his car going after Serena.
- In the scenes where the male goes after the female in Love and Other Drugs, she is on a bus when she sees him, however in our trailer we developed these scenes as Serena is in her house when she sees him outside.
- The way we challenged our trailer against Love and Other Drugs is the way our trailer is very conventional in terms of a classical romance genre storyline, yet Love and Other Drugs is contemporary in terms of their unconventional storyline.
- This is the trailer for the film The Notebook. I will analyse this in comparison to my trailer Yours, Always and discuss where I have used, developed and challenged certain things.
- This clip I made will shown the three elements of use, develop and challenge in the comparisons of the trailer for the film The Notebook.
- The similarities between both trailers are the use of the montage of clips showing the two main character relationship blossom and also the age of the characters are very similar.
- My trailer has developed the scenes of the girls parent not agreeing with her being with the boy as we have shown just the father warning off James from seeing Serena, we leave the audience in suspense as we see James going after Serena at the end of the trailer leaving them wondering what will her father say.
- My trailer challenged the aspect of the setting of The Notebook, as in that trailer a more scenic and rural environment is shown, with lakes and the country being the main element of this trailer. However as we are unable to access this type of setting we stuck to an urban environment which made ours trailer more contemporary.
MAGAZINE
- Here I have shown how I have used the small text at the top of the magazine, used the '10 Best' feature and used the positioning of the barcode.
- Here I have shown how I have developed the text of my masthead to fit with the genre of my magazine, also how I have developed the '10 Best' feature to fit in with my magazines' genre.
- Here I have shown how i have challenged the elements of the Premiere magazine. I have changed the colour scheme to fit in with my genre of my magazine and to appeal to its audience. Also I have changed the image of my main characters as this shows the audience what type of film is being advertised and by using this image they can easily tell it is a romance film being advertised. And finally the fonts and sizes have been changed to fit around the image and cover lines on my magazine and to be noticed by my audience.
- Here I have shown how I have used the positioning of my two character on the poster the same way the characters are positioned on the other poster. Also I have used the professional text at the bottom of the poster showing all the information about the film, this makes my poster look very professional.
- Here I have shown how I have developed the positioning of the characters, and I how I have change it so the boy is holding onto the girl, as in my trailer it is the boy going after the girl who he loves. Also I've shown how I have developed the text at the bottom of the page to fit with the font with the rest of the text and also the romantic genre of the poster.
- Here I have shown how I have challenged the actor name at the top of the poster, I decided I want both of my actors names above the text at the bottom as this fills out the page more. Also I challenged the smaller image the other poster has as I thought that my one main image would be strong enough to advertise my film and show their relationship.

Research and planning: Editing of the trailer
From researching in to romance trailers more I noticed that the conventions of these trailers used slow motion to emphasise the more romantic/happier times, and also to show the intensity of the tragic times. I used the slow motion tool in my trailer to show I understand the conventions of a romance film trailer, and can include this in my own production.
Research and planning: editing of the trailer
Throughout the editing of my trailer I learned how to use the software more professionally, by detaching the audio this allowed the voice overs to sound more clearer, and by splitting the clip, this allowed the cutting of the clip to be more precise.
Research and planning: changes in development
Here is a podcast explaining how our roles have changed throughout the development of our trailer. My initial micro elements were cinematography and sound, but in this podcast we explain that all four elements were covered by us both. We found this was a more efficient way of developing our production.

Research and planning: Yours, Always trailer
Some amendments I made in the editing of my trailer was that after audience feedback, we found that the black screens in-between the slides would be suited better with more lighter colours and also colours that represent romance. So I have changed those slides to a beige background and hot pink text. Also I added extra slides to the ending of my trailer to include more conventions of a film trailer.

Research and planning: editing the sound for my trailer
This is my GarageBand song I made for the romance trailer, as the trailer finishes we needed the volume of the track to be lower so we got a softer ending, so this screen shot shows my work and the ending with a lower volume at the end.

Research and planning: the voice over script
This is the script I used to read over the top of the score for my film trailer. I decided to speak over the top of my trailer in an american accent because this conventionally is the most popular voice over accent. By using this accent also made the trailer look more professional.

Research and planning: Examples of teaser trailers
Research and planning: teaser trailer research
My trailer is starting to have the elements of a teaser trailer, under two minutes, showing snippets of the film scenes and also mentions the release time to be in spring. Now I have researched in to teaser trailer I can start to include more elements into my work.
Research and planning: Why my trailer is a teaser trailer
My trailer has the conventions of a teaser trailer because:
- It is 1.20 seconds long therefore it is not long enough to be a theatrical trailer.
- Because only snippets of the film are shown this teases the audience and makes them want to watch the whole film.
- We took key scenes from our film which illustrated pivotal points such as love, conflict and tragedy.
- We reorganised the scenes so they are not chronological so that we wouldn't give to much of the plot away, however our scenes would work to appeal to our target audience.
Research and planning: group meeting
Me and my partner with our tutor had a meeting about our product we spoke about the length and the sequence of it. As we was advised to take more clips out and edit more critically this made our trailer shorter leaving it at 1:19 in total. This came to our attention and therefore we decided to research more in to teaser trailers as ours would end up being one.

Research and planning: film poster so far
I have defined the title by using a drop shadow effect. Also I have included the actors names on the page, also with a drop shadow to stand out, I used a guide line to make sure they were both placed at the same height on the page.
Research and planning: film poster so far
I have chosen which image I want to use and airbrushed the two characters. I have placed the title on the page in the colour and font I want to use.

Research and planning: weather post
This weather forecast shows that when we will be filming there could be a chance of rain, as we are filming out side this could be a problem we will have to work around the weather hoping it won't get in the way of our work too much

Research and planning: location research
Research and planning: location research
For one of our scenes we will need a coffee shop so for convenience for us filming and the actors to get to, we have chosen a small coffee shop called Mocha Joe's in Hyde Mall, it is local to all of us and is a friendly environment.
Research and planning: company logo
This is a logo I made for our production/distribution company 'stardust films'. I used photoshop to create this I wanted to make my logo have a modern feel, but as my genre of my film trailer is romance I wanted to touch on that genre too.
Research and planning: Audition poster
You can see from my audition poster that the film is clearly a romance film, I've used reds to link with the connotations of love. Also I have stated when the auditions will take place and where also the name of the film and what actors we are looking for.
Research and planning: Collage
This is a collage I put together to link with my genre of romance. This collage shows all the stereotypical dimensions of romance, including love, passion, candles, holidays, couples, red.
Research and planning: auditions
This is the actor we will use for our male character in our trailer as he fits well with the males personality we have gave him, and is the most available out of all the others that auditioned.
This is also the female actor we will use in our trailer as also like the male she fits well with the personality of the character, also is available to shoot the shots for our trailer. Also in terms of mise en scene, she has clothes that fit the character's style making outfits more accessible and a wider choice can be used.
